日本は2018年の春にeスポーツを一つの職業と認めプロライセンス化することで、ビデオゲームに対するこれまでの見方を変える大きな一歩を踏み出しました。全国のゲーマーたちにとって、これに勝る喜びはなかったことでしょう。
プロライセンス化にともなう賞金付き大会の合法化は、ゲームに対する見方を変えたばかりでなく、プロゲーマーたちが自分の最も得意とする分野で食べていける道も開きました。
これまで、賞金付きのeスポーツ大会は違法賭博を規制するための様々な法律に抵触する可能性があるため開催が非常に困難でした。そのため今回開催された「闘会議2018」は非常に革命的であったと言えるでしょう。
今回新しく設立されたeスポーツ団体「日本eスポーツ連合」（JeSU）がトップゲーマーたちにプロライセンスを発行することで、日本でも法に触れることなく賞金付きのeスポーツ大会を開催することが可能になりました。eスポーツは2024年フランスオリンピックの正式種目への採用が検討されているため、今回の新団体設立は日本オリンピック委員会（JOC）への加盟に向けた動きと見られています。
このような動きが日本でのビデオゲームに対する世間の見方を変えるのはおそらく間違いないでしょう。日本ではゲーマーは昔からややマイナスのイメージで捉えられてきました。ソニーの代表は「eスポーツはゲーマー同士のコミュニティをさらに発展させ、ゲームの社会的地位を向上させるだろう」との見識を示しています。
ソーシャルゲームも最近話題の一つになり始めています。プラットフォームがスマホでありながら、PCゲーマーなどからも人気を集めています。パズドラ（パズルドラゴン）もソーシャルゲームのジャンルの中のゲームの一つであり、対戦型ソシャゲとして注目を集めています。
eスポーツがプロライセンス化し賞金付きeスポーツ大会が合法化されることで、ゲームに対する認識がこれから実際に変わっていくかどうか、より若い世代がeスポーツに関心を持つきっかけとなるかどうかが今後の動向が気になりますね。
